Sunrise and sunset are some of the most beautiful times of the day to sit in peace or watch it with your friends. Split especially has some amazing picturesque locations that are perfect to sit, grab a beverage and enjoy the light show. The Old Town's buildings are certainly enhanced during golden hour and the sea is great too.
Sustipan
Sustipan is a personal favourite of mine and for many reasons, I’ll share a few here. It is a park right on the edge of the Split peninsula and it has cliffs that completely drop off to the seas ranging from roughly eight metres to about fifteen metres high, as long as you can handle a little vertigo you’ll be fine! From this location you can perfectly capture both the sunrise and sunset as both can be seen where the horizon meets the Adriatic Sea. All day there are young local kids jumping off these cliffs and it’s incredible to watch the bravery.
It has seating all along the cliffside and also greenery if you’d prefer to sit on the grass. Perfect location for a calm date, maybe some wine and a little picnic to top off the sunset and right behind you, you’ll be able to see the sun reflecting off the Old Town.
Split Old Town
Split’s Old Town is an obvious choice; the sun strongly reflects off all the architecture and displays something you can only find in certain parts of Europe. There are many places all around the town that compliment the sun's setting rays but a particular favourite of ours is standing next to the silver gate looking towards the Saint Domnius Bell Tower, Split’s most famous monument.
Matejuška Pier
Matejuška is one of the most well known spots in town by the local population. It’s surrounded by many small boats which seem to occupy this space all year round and never actually get used. Here the law is a little more relaxed and the authorities turn a blind eye to any public drinking so grab yourself a beer or a cider from the Tommy or Little Beer Shop across the road and join the locals for a drink!
Split Riva
Probably the most common choice and somewhere you’d end up just by chance watching the sunset is the Riva Split. A long promenade full of cafes, bars, bakeries, jewellery shops, convenience stores and gelato shops. It has everything you need and also plenty of covered and free seating the whole way down. This is likely one of the busiest places you’ll find so make sure to get there early and get a good spot. Our personal favourite is obviously Jimmy Bar, the best coffee with an unobstructed view of the sea.
One of Split’s Beaches
A little more of a broad option this time, you can read our other blog on what we perceive to be the superior beaches in Split. All of the above options like Bačvice, Firule, Znjan and Kašjuni are all facing the perfect direction, especially for a sunset. All also have bars that sell beverages so no need to go exploring for that perfect spot when it’s right in front of you all day!
Split Sunset Spots
Split has one of the most beautiful sunsets in the world, its golden hour is truly magical, however the absolute best place to enjoy a damn good sunset is on our very own party boat. We promise the best golden hour Instagram photos possible.
