Best Islands to Visit in Croatia

Updated: Apr 22

Did you know Croatia is home to over one thousand islands? We understand it can be hard to decide which island to visit, so today we will talk about the top 4 islands you should be adding to your bucket list while exploring Croatia!

Whether you're visiting Croatia for the world-famous boat parties or the relaxing vineyards you'll probably find yourself somewhere along the Adriatic Sea coastline. Fun fact: the Croatian Adriatic coastline is 1,777 km long which is surrounded by over one thousand islands. Croatia has been a huge up-and-coming tourist destination over the years, even being home to the set of Mamma Mia 2! Part of exploring this beautiful country is taking quick ferries to the many different islands. We know it can be overwhelming so here are our top 4 favorite islands to visit during the summer season!

#1 - Hvar island

We decided to put Hvar Island first on our list because this is known to be one of the most popular islands to visit and for good reason! If you're looking to party until the sun rises or party on massive yachts this is the spot for you. Spend golden hour dancing to the best Dj's at Hula Hula bar then when you're ready to get the night started head over to Carpe Diem for one of the craziest island parties. Don't worry Hvar isn't all party, there is plenty to do during the day! One of the top attractions to do here is climb up to the Fortica Fortress and explore, if you're up here you'll want to stay for the sunset views looking down on the main port.

#2 - brač

Brač is most famously known for its more popular town on the south side called Bol. Here you will find a good amount of nightlife in the peak season but that's not the main attraction here. The main attraction is called Zlatni Rat or Golden Horn Beach, one of the most beautiful beaches in Croatia. Golden Horn Beach attracts tourists due to its oddly shaped beach sticking out into the sea curving much like a bull's horn. On this beach, you'll find plenty of bars and places to sit making it the perfect getaway!

#3 - Korcula

Korcula is another personal favorite for many reasons. This island sits a bit closer to Dubvronik so if you're taking the ferry from Split it might add on some extra time. No worries though, the ferry system in Croatia is easy to understand and get around. If you're looking to stay somewhere look to stay more in Korcula Old Town since that is where you'll find most bars and restaurants easy to walk to. One of the best things we did on a trip to Korcula was rent a scooter and drive the island exploring hidden beaches and wineries.

#4 - Vis

Vis is one of the furthest inhabited islands from the mainland in Croatia so again, you will find fewer tourists here in the peak months but rest assured there will be plenty of options when it comes to places to eat and drink. Vis is one of the most popular islands when it comes to wine-making and local seafood. So if that's more your thing you might want to spend a little extra time here exploring and roaming around. Earlier I mentioned Mamma Mia 2 being filmed in Croatia, well this is where part of the movie set place. You can even take a day exploring the exact spot it was filmed which is a bit of a drive from the main port but worth the scenic views of this untouched gem.
