Coming on holiday to Split for a while and hoping all the amazing pastries and nightlife Split has to offer won’t affect your summer body too much? Luckily Split and its locals are generally quite a fit and athletic population meaning that you are never too far away from a fitness centre or even walking and hiking tracks. Here are a few of what we believe to be the best gyms in Split based on location, value and usability.
Spartan Gym
We start with probably the most old fashioned gym you could find. It is located about a five minute walk from the town centre and it’s been built inside an old war bunker meaning it’s actually a very comfortable temperature all year round inside, despite its small size. The equipment is old fashioned but not too worn out and a small personal note - their music is generally second to none, you won’t even have to bring your headphones as they have the right playlist for you. This gym is especially popular with tourists due to its location and friendly staff and guests.
Opening hours are decent, 8:00 - 21:00 each day apart from Sundays.
Priced at around 37 Euro for a month, slightly cheaper if you’re after an off-peak membership or for a shorter term you can purchase a ten day pass or less for under 24 Euro and as usual it’s cash only.
Fitness Centre Bazeni Poljud
A bit further out of the way, located next to Vanilla Club is Fitness Centre Bazeni Poljud. This gym is very large and also has the option to purchase a membership for the pool connected to the building too. If you are planning to visit in more peak timings then this gym might be better suited to your needs as it has many types of machinery and equipment and more than just one of each.
Opening hours are 8:00 - 22:00 during the week, slightly less on Saturdays and closed Sundays.
Memberships are a little more confusing here where they will charge you a set amount for the month based on how many times you plan to visit per week, a concept that we have sometimes found different to anywhere else we have been before. Nevertheless, you’ll find memberships for a month from between 29 - 48 Euro and a one time pass to be 13 Euro with a touch extra if you want to use the pool facilities too.
Olimpijski Centar/Marjan Fitness
About a 15 minute walk inland from the centre is our third and final well known fitness centre, Marjan Fitness. Can be a little difficult to find as it’s located on a huge abandoned-looking corner with a few shops, cafes and hostels around. Once you find it you’ll see it is decent sized and comfortable enough to use as long as there are not too many guests. They have all the necessary equipment and the centre is also used for various martial arts and indoor sports, to which you can watch from the cardio equipment if you’re there at the right time. It’s actually home to some past olympic champions so there is memorabilia all over the walls, difficult to read if you can’t understand the local language though!
During the week they’re open 8:00 - 23:00, slightly less again on Saturdays and even 13:00 - 19:00 on Sundays which is a bonus.
Their memberships here are a little more pricey, monthly costs ranging from 38 - 52 Euro depending on how many uses per week but also have family options which could be helpful if you’re travelling with siblings, parents or children.
Good luck keeping fit and healthy, we hope to see you sweating out the hangovers that we helped with!
